Some vacations are about the outdoor adventure, some focus more on the sites. Is it the history that makes a vacation spot a true destination to explore? Certainly great shopping and restaurants, nightlife and culture, and fun activities are a prerequisite for that choice vacation location. Aspen, Colorado is all of this and more!
Thoughts of Aspen might conjure up visions of the rich and famous frolicking in opulent mansions, consuming endless bottles of Dom Perignon while using hundred dollar bills to get the logs burning in the fireplace. Truthfully, there is probably some of that going on. However, Aspen and its four distinct ski resorts offer an unforgettable mountain vacation experience that is within reach of travelers of all economic backgrounds.
While downtown Aspen is home to some of the finest restaurants in any resort, there are plenty of down-home eateries with scrumptious offerings at reasonable prices. It is not hard to find $20 drinks at the ritziest bars, but happy hour deals abound in this eclectic Rocky Mountain enclave. There are galleries and shops, museums and cultural events providing entertainment for all: there is plenty of fine art beyond the reach of most mingled in amongst many free historical tours and museums.
Then there are the mountains, the majestic ski resorts of Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. This is the reason you have come to Aspen and these mountains do not disappoint! Whatever your ability level, one of these world-class mountains promises to deliver the ultimate experience. Worried that this is where the bank breaks? Think again. With deals that include free days of skiing, free nights of lodging, kids ski free, deep ski school discounts, and lodging options from economical to ultra-luxury, Aspen is a destination within the reach of all budgets and actually one of the more affordable ski resorts in Colorado.
Aspen Mountain soars from the heart of downtown, featuring an abundance of steep expert terrain and incredible glades for more advanced skiers and riders.
Offering a near backcountry experience and a unique, laid-back vibe, Aspen Highlands (with its iconic Highlands Bowl) is where the hard-core mountain enthusiasts gravitate.
Buttermilk, home of the X Games, provides the ideal conditions for beginners to enter a sport they will enjoy for a lifetime as well as X Games quality Park and Pipes!
Snowmass has something for everyone and is one of the most inviting family mountain destinations in the country.
Eating out is something we all love to do on vacation and the fare in downtown Aspen does not disappoint. There are an abundance of outstanding dining establishments for those seeking a fine culinary experience. Similarly, the more budget conscious Aspen visitors will find plenty of options for more reasonably priced dining options (although “reasonably priced” must be taken into the proper context when we are talking about Aspen, Colorado). By the way, make sure to plan ahead and make reservations as far in advance as possible or be prepared to eat early or late in the evening if you are more of an on-the-fly type.
The Finest of the Fine:
Matsuhisa is the Aspen location of famed Chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Incredible and eclectic sushi dishes, Asian inspired signature dishes, and an inviting atmosphere make this a must-do if you are in the mood for some of the best sushi in the mountains.
Element 47 is the only Forbes Five-Star Restaurant Award holder in Aspen and has been recognized by James Beard, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator for its wine program. If you are looking for the one of the best breakfast, lunch or dinner establishments in Aspen this might be your spot! The food is exceptional American fare with offerings to please all palates. For that special night out, Element 47 is the choice.
Cache Cache has long been an Aspen staple featuring an extensive wine collection that will impress the most finicky wine connoisseur. Authentic French cuisine prepared using primarily locally sourced ingredients, when available, from the owner’s personal farm. The food is divine, the service outstanding, and the atmosphere surprisingly lacking that air of pretentiousness that might be expected from an Aspen based French restaurant.
Great Food, Great Price:
New York Pizza is the best pizza in Aspen, as close to East Coast pizza as you will find in the mountains. They also prepare tasty sandwiches and salads, all at the most reasonable prices. Make sure you order far in advance as this is a very popular pizza joint.
Main Street Bakery & Cafe offers breakfast and lunch in a quaint little setting and reasonable prices. Whether eating a meal in or taking out some fresh baked goods, Main Street Bakery & Cafe simply has great tasting food.
The Big Wrap is primarily a take-out spot, Aspen gourmet fast food. Killer wraps, tacos, burritos, salads and soups are what this place is famous for and the tastes are on point. Grab a bag of tasty food and get ready to munch hard, you will be back!
Ajax Tavern sits right at the base of the mountain in downtown Aspen. In the summer or on those sunny Spring ski days the patio is the place to be! This is where you will find some of the best lunch Aspen has to offer with killer burgers, their signature truffle fries, and tasty cocktails (one of the best Bloodies in Aspen!). One word of advice, it does not take long for this place to get packed so plan on putting your name in and take another run up the gondola before getting seated.
Jimmy’s is where EVERYONE goes for drinks and great food. If you have been to Aspen before chances are you know what I am talking about. The bar is hopping and the dining room is always packed with satisfied diners. Jimmy’s offers a range of American themed dishes to please all tastes, the food is exceptional and the pricing is not too bad either. When the dining room and bar are filled you may want to step out onto the enclosed patio for a little serenity or quicker dinner when available.
The White House Tavern is Aspen’s finest “sandwich shop”. Be prepared to wait a little but the wait is well worth it! The sandwiches and salads are exceptional, there is really nothing more to say except make sure to hit this one early in your stay because there is no doubt you will want to visit more than once.
Aspen Over Easy is the place for breakfast, period, end of story. Well, lunch is pretty good too. If you are lucky enough to be staying close to Aspen Over Easy (which is right next door to The White House Tavern) you will most likely be eating breakfast here everyday.

Jinger, We had a FABULOUS time. It was great! I want to thank you for all your help in planning this trip. You have been a pleasure to work with. You have gone over and above to answer all of my questions and provide additional information when necessary. Thank you again for all that you have done for my family and myself.
"From the get go, Jinger had our plans dialed right down to the smallest of details. We arrived, checked-in hit the slopeside hot tub and THEN we knew we could relax and enjoy our annual ski vacation. Thanks for all the help!"
Dan, Our trip to Vail was awesome!! I really appreciated your help in putting things together for us. Everything went so smoothly – I appreciated you taking to time to send our lift tickets to the hotel – it was great having things all together when we checked in and were eager to hit the slopes. I’ll definitely consider your services in the future.
I have to tell you David, I own a real estate sales company with over 55 sales people and my company was # 1 in NJ for all of REMAXs 170 offices for commissions. I tell you that because I have some great sales people and I just wanted to say, you are a great salesperson. You have a great, calm friendly demeanor and your follow up over the years has been impeccable. I have given your name and info to quite a few people over the years and will continue to do so. Kudos on a job well done from one sales professional to another.
... what a trip! I can’t thank you enough! We set out to create memories for our son, and us, and through all your hard work, we clearly achieved that! I have already, and will continue, to mention Rocky Mountain Getaways and specifically you (Kasey)! Please keep in touch.
